Why Startups Are more in Vogue among Millennials

In the changing trend, talented millennials are either venturing into their own startups or joining them as an associates; rather than joining the well paid job in corporates. Now the pertinent question comes to mind why it is so. It is the soothing atmosphere in startups that provides liberty, flexibility, friendly approach, fast recognition and rapid growth that catch the imaginations of young professionals.

The young workforce of today is seeking not merely the job but the meaningful job. Their priority is not merely to earn money but to drive recognition and satisfaction from the job they are doing. They look for a purposeful job in which their impact is visible.

Today’s employees are quite vocal about their requirements. Larger Corporations are not catering to their rising needs as those are run on traditional business models with Pyramid hierarchy. On the other hand startups believe in trust and cooperation among the team members and have flat hierarchy. Hierarchy set up in big corporates does not provide the freedom for the young talent to choose their work. Whereas in startups talented workforce is given chance to try their hand in more high level work earlier on in their career.

Startup culture exemplified by certain vital factors such flexible working hours as per the convenience of the worker. In contrast the corporate job wants the employee to be present at the set standard time. There is no strict dress code in startup setup; one is given the freedom to wear what you want.

Flat hierarchy in startups is perhaps the most attractive attribute that attract talent. Fresher can be assigned challenging task with minimal involvement from higher hierarchy. Corporate job demands the employees to carry out their duties as per the set guidelines from higher ups. Many a times good work done by a talented employee is high jacked by his boss and real potential of the employee is undermined.

In the startup environment one has to improvise very often and there are not set deadlines. At any point of time you may be asked to switch over to any urgent work that comes company’s way. You will be solely responsible for the outcome, good or bad. Timing is quite crucial in startups what take years in corporate to complete the task; may be done in months at a startup. Beyond doubt job at startup is more challenging but for a good performer it is also quite rewarding. If you can work under pressure and have fire in your belly then you certainly stand a chance to succeed in startup set up. In a corporate structure one have to follow a set schedule and are guided at every step and thus takes longer time to complete the given task.

Surprising fact is that at the startups workforce is underpaid but given liberty to choose the task; whereas corporate jobs are well paid but are monotonous in nature and thus appear boring for innovative people.

More and more Millennials are preferring the startup environment because they enjoy challenges and wish to play vital role in the success of the company.
