Rahul Gandhi to Contest 2024 Lok Sabha Elections from Amethi, Priyanka Gandhi’s Candidacy Awaited: UP Congress Chief
VARANASI: The Chief of Uttar Pradesh Congress, Ajay Rai, declared on Friday that Rahul Gandhi, a prominent leader within the party, is slated to contest the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Amethi. Rai stated, “Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to participate as a candidate from Amethi in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.” Addressing the conjecture surrounding Priyanka Gandhi’s potential candidacy in the 2024 elections, Rai asserted that Priyanka Gandhi will select her constituency based on her own discretion.
“If Priyanka Gandhi indicates her interest in contesting from Varanasi, our entire workforce will dedicate their efforts to ensure her victory,” he added. In a recent development, Congress Party President Mallikarjun Kharge swiftly appointed Ajay Rai as the leader of the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee on Thursday. The appointment was announced through a statement released by the All India Congress Committee.
“The Congress President has named Ajay Rai, a former MLA, as the President of the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee with immediate effect,” the official statement read. Ajay Rai had previously contested for Congress in Varanasi during the 2014 and 2019 elections, both times experiencing defeat against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Furthermore, businessman Robert Vadra fervently advocated for his wife, Priyanka Gandhi, a prominent Congress leader, to participate in the forthcoming 2024 general elections. He expressed the belief that Priyanka Gandhi’s presence in the Lok Sabha would be positively received by the public and suggested that the party could nominate her from constituencies such as Amethi or Sultanpur in Uttar Pradesh.
“…In my perspective, Priyanka should prioritize her entry into the Parliament, and her participation in the Lok Sabha would resonate well with the people. Whether it’s Amethi or Sultanpur, I would endorse her candidacy from a constituency that aligns with the party’s strategy,” Vadra shared with ANI.
