Portugal World Cup squad 2022: Cristiano Ronaldo leads Portugal’s final 26-man national football team roster in Qatar
The Portugal World Cup 2022 squad has been named, with little surprise of some of the talent at coach Fernando Santos’ disposal.
The global perception of Portugal’s national men’s team for well over a decade has been Cristiano Ronaldo plus 10 others. It seems inevitable that Qatar 2022 will be filed in the annals of Portuguese football only under ‘Ronaldo’s last World Cup’.
The dominance of Spain between 2008 and 2012 only increased the pressure on Santos, as well as talisman Cristiano Ronaldo, and the Manchester United man could make his tournament farewell at this year’s FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Santos opted for a solid core of players during Portugal’s World Cup qualification campaign, and he is not expected to spring too many surprises in his final squad, as they prepare to face Uruguay, Ghana and South Korea in Group H.
