Tragedy Strikes: Four Feared Drowned in Kanhan River During Picnic

A heartbreaking incident unfolded in Nagpur district, Maharashtra, as four individuals, including a woman, are now feared to have tragically drowned in the Kanhan river while on a picnic. The group, all in their twenties, had gathered near the Waka area to enjoy their outing when the situation took a grim turn. This unfortunate event transpired under the jurisdiction of the Khapa police station, within Saoner tehsil.

According to official reports, the picnic group consisted of approximately six individuals. Unfortunately, four of them entered the river to engage in recreational play, but the situation quickly escalated, preventing their return to safety. The authorities were alerted to this tragedy around 4 pm, prompting an immediate search operation to locate the missing victims.

The individuals involved in this heart-wrenching incident have been identified as Vijay Thakre, Sonia Marskolhe, Ankul Baghel, and Arpit. The ongoing search efforts aim to find and recover their bodies, bringing closure to their families and loved ones.

In a separate and equally tragic incident, occurring last week in Thane district, two individuals, Salman Purkan Ansari and Sarfaraj Aslam Ansari, found themselves in a similar perilous situation. They were feared to have drowned in the Ulhas river while attempting to swim. Despite the valiant rescue attempts, the search for these missing individuals extended late into the night.

Adding to the series of unfortunate events, an earlier incident on August 5 shook Maharashtra’s Palghar district. A 17-year-old named Yash Solkar lost his life in a water-filled quarry while trying to retrieve a ball during a cricket match. The relentless efforts of fire brigade personnel and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) were in vain, as they were unable to save the young boy’s life.

These heartrending occurrences serve as a stark reminder of the utmost importance of water safety and vigilant precautions during outdoor activities near water bodies.
