Tamil Nadu Assembly Committee on Estimates Conducts Extensive Visits and Engagements in Tirunelveli

TIRUNELVELI: Led by Chairman K Anbalagan, the Tamil Nadu Assembly Committee on Estimates embarked on a comprehensive series of visits across the Tirunelveli district, accompanied by District Collector K P Karthikeyan and Tirunelveli Corporation Commissioner V Sivakrishnamurthy. The committee’s agenda encompassed stops at Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital, various schools, and interactions with the victims of Nanguneri caste atrocities.

The district administration issued a statement detailing the committee’s activities during their visit. Their first stop was the Melapalayam Urban Health Centre, where they assessed patient amenities and the availability of medical supplies for treating conditions such as snakebites and dog bites. The members also examined the ongoing construction of a bridge on the Vannarpettai south bypass road and evaluated the ‘Thozhi’ guest house’s biometric-door-opening security system, specifically designed for working women. In addition, they inquired about the well-being of women residing at the guest house.

The committee scrutinized the office of the Joint Commissioner of Commercial Tax, evaluating food quality and hygiene standards. They also assessed various aspects, including food quality and hygiene, at the hostel run by the Adi Dravidar Welfare Department for female students of a government college. The committee’s visit extended to the Integrated Registration Officer’s office, where they engaged in conversations with individuals visiting for registration purposes.

Furthermore, the committee interacted with victims of Nanguneri caste atrocities at the super specialty unit of Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital. They also inspected the ongoing construction of a Rs 20 crore emergency care unit at the hospital. Through interactions with patients from various departments, including cardiology and nephrology, the committee gained insights into the provision of medical facilities.

The committee also delved into the teaching methods and facilities available to students at the Reddiarpatti Union Primary School. Responding to public demands, the committee members assured that they would convey requests—such as the construction of a service road in the railway gate area to alleviate traffic congestion—to the state government.

“We will bring all the demands of the public to the notice of the state government,” Anbalagan affirmed. The visit was attended by MLAs S Sivakumar, E Paranthaman, Rajeshkumar, and Jawahirullah.
