Congress Gears Up for 2024 Lok Sabha Elections in Delhi Amidst Opposition Dynamics

NEW DELHI: The Congress party has made a strategic decision to kickstart preparations for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections across all seven constituencies in Delhi. This pivotal resolution was reached during a meeting led by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday, and attended by Rahul Gandhi.

Alka Lamba, a Congress leader, shared insights on the development, stating, “We have received instructions to gear up for the impending Lok Sabha elections. The unanimous agreement is to initiate preparations for all seven constituencies. With just seven months remaining, our committed party members have been tasked with readying themselves for all seven seats.”

Lamba further elaborated, “Although the exact number of seats we will contest is yet to be determined, our marching orders are to lay a solid foundation for all seven constituencies in Delhi.”

The response from Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which presently governs Delhi and is part of the newly-formed opposition alliance INDIA, was swift and forceful.

“If the Congress has opted against forming an alliance in Delhi, participating in the upcoming INDIA alliance meeting becomes questionable,” commented AAP spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar.

“Given the Congress’s limited presence in Delhi, it would be up to them to approach us for an alliance. The ultimate decision about our participation in the next opposition gathering rests with our senior leadership,” Kakkar added.

Saurabh Bhardwaj, an AAP leader and Delhi minister, stated, “Our central leadership will make the final call. Our political affairs committee and INDIA-affiliated parties will convene to deliberate on the feasibility of a poll alliance.”

Delhi’s Congress leaders are optimistic about their party’s performance in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections within the national capital. They also express concerns about the corruption cases involving AAP leaders.

“The perception of the Congress has undergone a significant shift since Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Jodo’ campaign. This shift informs our directive to prepare for all seven constituencies,” the Congress leader affirmed.

Lamba also touched upon the discussions concerning the cases against AAP leaders, stating, “The meeting did involve deliberations on the cases involving AAP leaders.”
